With its rich and storied king fishing industry, the Treasure Coast is a perfect venue for the SKA National Championship and the Professional Kingfish Tour Championship. During the mid-nineteen hundreds, the Treasure Coast area was billed as “The Kingfish Capital of the World.” Many of today’s methods of king fishing, as a recreational sport, were refined in the waters of the Treasure Coast. Since the inception of the association in 1991, many successful kingfish tournaments have been held in the waters of Fort Pierce.

The King fishery in April is strong. The proximity of fishing grounds in relation to the Fort Pierce Inlet provides ample opportunity for overall and class boats to catch the winning fish. Although sea conditions in inclement weather always present challenges for fishing tournaments, fishermen do not need to run long distances to connect with trophy kingfish.
